Presbyterian Women welcome you to Briarwood. We are part of a church-wide organization open to all women. We give strong support to the mission of the church and determine our own leadership, program and budget. In order to meet the various schedules of all women, we have five different Circles that meet once a month for fellowship and Bible study. There is also a PW at Large group for those who cannot attend Circle meetings, but wish to be involved in PW activities.
Circle 1 meets Monday at noon for lunch in homes
Circle 2 meets Tuesday evening at 6:00 in homes
Circle 3 meets Tuesday morning at 10:00 at the church
Circle 4 meets Friday morning at 9:30 in homes
Circle 5 meets Sunday evening at 4:45 at the church
PW Special Events
Cluster C Gathering, Saturday, September 15 at Trinitiy Presbyterian Church, Meridian.
Mary/Martha Day: The third Tuesday in each month we meet at 10:00am to work on various projects. We enjoy Christian fellowship and close with a devotion and light lunch.
Christmas Projects: We dress teddy bears and stuff stockings for the Salvation Army. We make small candy stuffed stockings as tray favors for University Medical Center patients.
Annual Cookie Caper: At the February Mary/Martha Day, we pack homemade cookies to send to our college students, members in the military, and our homebound members.
Silent and Well Baby Layettes: These small layettes are lovingly sewn by our members for babies at University Medical Center.
Birthday Offering: This church wide offering began in 1922 to celebrate the “Birthday” of all women. Briarwood PW celebrates this offering by hosting a congregational Progressive Dinner each spring. All collected funds are donated to annually selected mission recipients that address human needs in this country and around the world.
Thank Offering (Including Health Ministries): The Thank Offering is an opportunity to support mission projects at home and abroad. Grants are awarded to projects based solely on their merits. The recipients must meet 14 criteria consistent with mission concerns and policies of the PC(USA). Health-related projects receive at least 40% of the annual Thank Offering. We celebrate and receive this offering each fall.
Dorcas Auction: Each year PW celebrates the good works and charitable spirit of Dorcas by hosting a party. An auction is held where handmade and donated items are sold to fund special projects benefiting local and regional handicapped ministries. This is an evening of fun, fellowship, finds, and food.
Year Round Donations: Throughout the year PW collects school supplies and sundries to donate to Lizzie Cooper ministries and members who are local school teachers.
These are just some of the opportunities for spiritual growth, fellowship and service of Briarwood Presbyterian Women. We hope you, as a new member, will find your place in this community of women in Christ.
